SHSL is a charitable foundation staffed by enthusiastic and skilled volunteers. Good education and adequate healthcare break the cycle of poverty. With this in mind, we collaborate with professional caregivers in both countries. Our contacts are direct and trusted, making our efforts efficient and effective. SHSL is a merger of SEHH (A Helping Hand Foundation) and SHF (Smarter Hospital Foundation).
We started our foundation in May 2011 as a joint initiative between friendly doctors and IBM employees with the goal to support hospitals and students in Sierra Leone with a focus on Yele and Makeni, two towns in the heart of Sierra Leone.

Support for local initiatives by organizations that combat poverty and disadvantage, operating on the basis of mutual respect and trust.
In recent years, SHSL has built lasting relationships with schools, hospitals, charities, and individual aid workers in Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka. Our contacts are diverse, and we do not discriminate based on religion or background. Every year, we make agreements about proposed plans and projects. If necessary, we advise on the approach and supervise the implementation. The initiators keep us regularly informed with messages and photos and report on the project after its completion. SHSL board members regularly visit the two donor countries, at their own expense. SHSL's income comes from donors, funds, and special gifts. We also receive financial support from Wilde Ganzen (Wild Geese). As a rule, we also request a contribution from local benefactors. Our foundation keeps organizational costs low, with at least 90% of the income going directly to the projects.
